Who can retell?

Who can retell the things that befell us?
Who can count them?
In every age, a hero or sage came to our aid.

Haaaaaaaaark!

In days of yore in Israel's ancient laaaaaaaaand
Brave Maccabeus led the faithful baaaaaaaaand
And today our people, as we dreeeeeeeeamed
Will arise, unite, and be redeeeeeeeeemed

Who can retell the things that befell us?
Who can count them?
In every age, a hero or sage came to our aid...

This is how I remember it (note the last couplet is different from your version).

Who can retell the things that befell us?
Who can count them?
In every age a hero or sage came to our aid.
Hark! In days of yore, in Israel's ancient land
Brave Maccabeus led the faithful band.
But now all Israel must as one arise,
Redeem itself through deed and sacrifice.

After research, I found yours online, but I distinctly remember the "eeeeeemed" at the end of the couplet. I'm sure I would have felt more disgust at the word "sacrifice"... maybe I remember the "redeemed" part from a previous life?

No, because Mom and Dad remembered it your way, so I must have learned my version somewhere else, but I can't imagine where! The cantor here knew my version also, but hubby is no help, because I had to teach HIM Mi Y'malel when we first started dating!
